Dimensions:
Dimensions allow you to attribute characteristics to the information you record, post and use in your daily work. This gives you the power to ask searching questions about your business and act upon the answers.
The key benefits of dimensions are noted below:
• Define an unlimited number of dimensions and dimension values. Assign dimensions to General Ledger, Items, Customers and Vendors.
• Set default, required or priority dimension values for postings to speed up and control data entry.
• Block dimensions no longer required and/or set up valid dimension value combinations for posting transactions.
• Define two global dimensions for use throughout the system. These are available for on screen analysis in the general ledger with filters able to be set upon them.
Analysis Views:
Analysis Views can be set up to perform analysis and monitor performance on general ledger or item ledger (sales and purchases) entries and posted dimension values.
You can define and name as many analysis views as you wish plus select what G/L or Item each view applies to. Refer to details below. |

|
Present the contents of an analysis view in a matrix form in the Analysis by Dimensions window:
• Filter data by Dimension, Date, G/L Account, Item or Location.
• Modify the matrix axes.
• Compare dimensions data from G/L Entries and Item Ledger Entries with data from Budget Entries to show variance, variance percentage, and index percentage.
You can also export the information in your Analysis Views to Microsoft Excel for further analysis or specific presentation requirements.
Business Analytics:
For companies with advanced data analysis requirements we recommend Dynamics NAV Business Analytics.
By selecting tables and fields from the Dynamics NAV database, users can set up and define cubes quickly using the Business Analytics Configurator.

The Basic offering delivers Microsoft Dynamics NAV information in predefined or customized information units, called Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cubes, directly to users’ desktops. Users can access and analyze data within a familiar Microsoft® Excel interface.
The Advanced offering provides a front-end tool that enables you to work with these cubes and build simple or complex queries within each of the categories. Using the latest .NET technology, you can also access the capabilities of Business Analytics from a Web browser.
