Felton streamlines supply chain and manufacturing

Felton Industries (www.felton.co.nz) has more than 40 years experience in designing and manufacturing shower mixers to suit New Zealand conditions. To date, there have been more than 1.4 million installations of the Felton shower mixers in New Zealand. That’s about one Felton shower mixer for about every three Kiwis!
BUSINESS SITUATION
Felton Industries were previously using a DOS based computer system (Crusader) that was based around software that was not going to be continued to be supported in the future.
They also had some specific requirements for a new system including:
· Production Bill of Materials with up to five levels including the ability to cost labour and overheads
· Ability to handle outsourced assembly in manufacturing process simply and easily
· Improved accessibility by Customer Service staff to sales related data as part of processing sales documents
· Real time access to sales and financial data as transactions occur rather than waiting for lengthy month-end processes to finish
· Ability to maintain an existing EDI sales data interfaces with a large customer
· Ability to access a lot of related data in various formats on one database
SOLUTIONS / BENEFITS
Microsoft Dynamics NAV – Business Essentials version was implemented in conjunction with the Microsoft registered NAV add on “Acumen for SME” to handle all core business processes.
Some key system features offered are:
· Financial systems including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory and Sales & Marketing.
· Warehousing systems include sales order dispatch and bill of material manufacturing.
· Sales analysis information for sales by territory, salesperson and item category.
The project was completed on time and within budget and the company is planning to utilise Microsoft Dynamics NAV functionality in other areas in the future including:
· Further streamlining of the purchasing/manufacturing process to achieve increased efficiencies
· Increased use of Dynamics NAV customer relationship functionality for internal sales staff
· Use of wireless scanners to improve the quality of stock control with the warehouse
